Let’s start with the…

Ideas!

The idea has been chosen.

Who doesn’t like a good old thalassophobia inducing story? I know one, my best friends. So not only was I researching my story, I also got an opinion from someone who scares what lurks in deep dark water.

Working further on the idea

Oh my lord, what is going here?

Story and script

Here come first struggle, to make an 8 pages worth of story. At first, I really wanted the original ending, but the more I write, the more I learn that I have to let go of it and make a new ending, so I can make it 8 pages and not longer than that. I have to say, this story is fun to write as the main character is a very imaginative kid.

  • The boy is a lucid dreamer, he loves being in his dreams, though once in a while he enters his own nightmare world.

There was nothing he could do about it, it's a small chance after all. As he laid down in his bed next to figurines of Indiana Jones and Lara Croft, he couldn't help but close his eyes in tiredness, just like every other night. While he was slowly falling asleep, he felt bubbles coming out his nose. He opened his eyes and realized that he was surrounded by dark water.

(seems like a nightmare again, sigh)

The boy knew that it was his dream again and began to swim around in the ocean, looking for any sign of the ocean floor or surface. He followed the bubbles to the surface, his eyes landed on a small light, thinking it may be something like the moon or a lantern from a boat.

As he got close, he saw that the light was not above the water surface. Rather it belonged to a sea creature, one that was big, creepy, and looked like it was eyeing on him like a predator about to pounce on their prey. And the prey is him.

The creature suddenly opened its mouth, showing its thin sharp teeth, ready to take a bite of the boy. With adventurous instinct and the power of lucid dreaming, he summoned a weapon like… a trident. Now he has to fight the big ass fish. *Insert epic fight.*

The boy pierced the creature with the trident and defeated it. The creature dissolved into particles, slowly faded away into nothing. The fluorescent object that was affixed to the creature also disintegrated, revealing a luminous, slender fish.

The slender fish expressed gratitude and helped the boy swim to the surface at the fast pace. As the boy almost reached the surface, he started to get a sensation that he was drowning. He tried to hold the remaining breath as he looked up, hoping that he would get there in time, as his lung were starting to hurt.

Finally, the boy reached the surface and gasped for air. Not even filly recovered, he was snatched out the water and pulled onto a rescue boat. He was wrapped in a blanket as he looked out onto the ocean, the slender fish was gone and in front of him in a distance was a cruise ship sinking in front of him.

    Page 3 (R):

    Panel 1:

From afar, the boy is floating in the dark water, the fish gave an impressive glow. In the background, there appears to be bottomless and no sight of the water surface.

    Boy

    Wow…

This is the prettiest sight I have ever seen in my dream.

    Panel 2:

The boy smiles as he plays with the fish, on the close up to the fish, it were gummy fish.

    Boy

    Wow, gummy fishes?

    Panel 3:

One fish swam over his head, which caused him to look up. He spot something in the distance.

    Boy

    feel like a glass ball.

    Boy (thought)

    What should I do?

    Panel 3:

Show thought bubbles of various underwater characters with their weapons.

    Boy (thought)

Should I go for a whip, gun, sword?

    Panel 4:

He had chosen his weapon, a spear, out of his imagination. He grabbed the spear out of his thought bubbles.

    Boy (thought)

Oh, I know. H20Man has the spear, I'll use it!

    Panel 5:

In the best timing, the glowing fishes swam past him.

    Page 6 (L):

    Panel 1:

Now we can fully see the monster with the orange glow. A one big scary monster.

    Panel 2:

The monster stood still, staring at his prey.

    Panel 3:

Then it opened its mouth to try to take a bite out of the boy.

    Panel 4:

The plunged the spear into the monster's “nose” to avoid being bitten by its teeth, making his way toward its back.

    Boy

    WOW!

    Panel 5:

The monster went into a crazy spiral as the boy held on to its spine.

    Boy

    AH!

    Panel 6:

The boy lost his grip and was thrown off to the side...

    Panel 7:

...but caught onto the light ball instead.

    Page 7 (R):

    Panel 1:

That made the monster stop a bit.

    Panel 2:

And then he was back to trashing around.

    Boy

    The weak spot?

    Panel 3:

Knowing that it was its weak spot, the boy creates a knife in his thought bubbles to cut it. His action resembled his favorite character, Indiana Jane.

    Panel 4:

The monster moaned as it rapidly started to decay…

    Panel 5:

…into nothing, leaving the boy alone with the glowing glass ball and the group swimming around him again.

    Page 8 (L):

    Panel 1:

The boy woke up in the same bed.

    Panel 2:

His mother was the one who woke him up.

    Mother

    Tommy, wake up.

    Panel 3:

The mother brought Tommy outside, where they went onto what looked like a deck of a cruise ship.

    Panel 4:

They both stood next to the father as they looked out into the night view.

    Panel 5:

The dark sky is full of stars and a bright full moon.
